Washington Wizards Information and History.
The Washington Wizards begin playing in the 1961-62 season as the Chicago Packers. The following year the team changed names to the Zephyrs. In 1963 the team relocated to the Baltimore, Maryland area, and became the Baltimore Bullets. In 1965, the Baltimore Bullets made the NBA playoffs, and made it all the way to the Western Conference Finals before losing to the Los Angeles Lakers in six games. In 1968 the Bullets picked up to future Hall of Famers, Wes Unseld and Earl Monroe. The team reached the playoffs but lost to the New York Knicks. The following season the Bullets met the New York Knicks again in the playoffs but in the Eastern Conference Finals, and defeated the Knicks in seven games. The Bullets reached their first NBA Finals but lost to the powerful Milwaukee Bucks. In 1973 they would advance to the playoffs as the Capital Bullets only to lose to the New York Knicks. The following season the team was renamed the Washington Bullets. In 1975, the Bullets once again would capture their second Eastern Conference title but would lose in the NBA Finals to the Golden State Warriors in four games. In the 1977-78 season the team would ride a wave of wins all the way to the NBA Finals. The Bullets captured their first NBA title against the Seattle SuperSonics in seven games. The following season the Bullets once again made it to the NBA Finals in a rematch against the Seattle SuperSonics but fell short in five games. The team struggled to living keep up their winning ways. In 1995, the Bullets became the Washington Wizards due to violent association of the name Bullets. The 90's were not kind to the Washington Wizards and were filled with disappointments and trades. In 2000, Michael Jordan became Washington Wizards president of basketball operations also minority owner of the Wizards. It was however only a matter of time till Michael Jordan would come out of retirement, and in September 2001 he came out. The team did not win as was expected, eventually leading to the firing of Michael Jordan. In 2003, the Washington Wizards aquired Gilbert Arenas. In the 2004-05 season the Washington Wizards the team finished with their best record in 26 years and was the first time the team made the playoffs as the Washington Wizards. The Washington Wizards defeated the Chicago Bulls but were swept by the Miami Heat who were ranked number one. Dispite a couple of years filled with injuries the Washington Wizards have managed to make it to the playoffs in the past two season. The Washington Wizards look to stay healthy in the 2007-08 season in order to make a deep push into the playoffs. They are led by their big three, Antawn Jamison, Caron Butler, and "Agent Zero" Gilber Arenas.
