Tom Petty Nissan Pavilion Concerts Tickets Facts and Information

Tom Petty Nissan Pavilion Concerts Background

Singer, song writer, and guitarist, Thomas Ear “Tom” Petty was born on October 20, 1950. Raised in Gainesville, FL, Tom Petty became interested in Rock-n-Roll at the age of 11. He quickly became an Elvis Presely film when he had a rare opportunity to watch him shoot the film “Follow that Dream” while in Ocala, FL. Although Tom Petty’s Father disapproved of his interest in the arts, making their relationship a difficult one, Tom Petty did not let this deter him. He found new inspiration when he saw the Beatles on the “Ed Sullivan Show”, finally realizing his dream to be a member of a band.

By the age of 17, Tom Petty had dropped out of school and joined the band Mudcrutch. Mudcrutch soon moved to LA where they hoped to be signed to a recording label, and although their dreams came true when they were signed to Shelter Records, it did little to keep the band together. Mudcrutch soon split, and sent Tom Petty on a path to find his new band members Ron Blair and Stan Lynch, who would later become part of the Heartbreakers. Shelter released Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers in 1976.

Initially unpopular in the U.S., Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers experienced enough success in the U.K. to prompt their record company to re- release their single “Breakdown” in 1977 where it became a Top 40 Record. Tom Petty & The Heartbreaker’s next two albums saw them through a change in recording companies from Shelter to MCA Records, and also marked their first Top 40 Album and Multi- Platinum Album.

The multi-platinum record, “Damn the Torpedoes”, released in 1979 was a breakthrough for Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. Soon Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers were garnering excellent reviews and generating top ten hits like “Don’t do me Like That” and “Refugee”. Due to his rise in popularity, Tom Petty was in for more trouble with his new recording label. MCA wanted to sell Tom Petty’s latest record for $9.98, which was very high at the time, and in an effort to support his fans Tom Petty refused to release it until they met his $8.98 price. With this success, Tom Petty began producing and doing duets. Tom Petty produced a comeback album for Del Shannon called “Drop Down and Get Me”, as well as writing a duet for himself and Stevie Nicks titled “Stop Draggin my Heart Around”. In 1982, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers returned with their “Long After Dark” album, which became their third top ten hit and spured a change in bassist when Ron Blair left and Howard Epstein joined Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers.

The next few years found Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers wrapping up their “Southern Accents” album the awaited follow-up to “Long After Dark”, and going on tour with Bob Dylan. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers served as the backup band when on tour with Bob Dylan, but did benefit from his contribution of “Jammin Me” which became another hit single for Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers.

In 1988 Tom Petty began exploring a solo career when he joined the group the Traveling Wilburys, which included Dylan, George Harrison, Roy Orbison, and Jeff Lynne. Tom Petty’s first full solo album was released in 1989, “Full Moon Fever”, and it became his major commercial success when it reached number three on the U.S. charts. In 1990, Tom Petty contributed to the second album of the Traveling Wilbury’s, and also reunited with The Heartbreakers to make “Great Wide Open”.

Tom Petty’s strong and deep track record of producing and collaborating on great music and albums has garnered him a loyal following, making his tickets sought after and his shows memorable. Tom Petty’s latest releases “Last DJ” and “Highway Companion” only add to a lifetime’s worth of music which he draws on in his concert performances, making each one of his shows akin to a trip down memory lane. Don’t miss an opportunity to see Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers in concert today.
