The Oakland Athletics is a professional baseball team out of Oakland, California. The Oakland Athletics are a member of the Western Division of Major League Baseball’s American League. It was not till 1971, that the Oakland Athletics won the American League West Division title, but lost to the Baltimore Orioles in the American League Championship Series. The following year the Oakland Athletics returned and won the American League Pennant, there first since 1931 and faced the Cincinnati Reds in the World Series. The Oakland Athletics won the World Series, in a matchup known as the, "The Hairs vs. the Big Squares". The Oakland Athletics won the World Series again in 1973 and 1974. The Oakland Athletics had players like, Catfish Hunter, Bert Campaneris, Joe Rudi, Sal Bando, Vida Blue, and Reggie Jackson. Due to internal management turmoil the Oakland Athletics dynasty begin to unravel, the Oakland Athletics still managed to win the American League West Division, they lost to the Boston Red Sox in the ALCS, in three games. During the new ownership of Haas, the Oakland Athletics increased their attendance average. The minor league farm system also produced players like Mark McGuire, Jose Canseco, Walt Weiss, all players who won American League Rookies of the Year honors. In 1989 the Oakland Athletics won the World Series against the San Francisco Giants. In 2005, a real estate developer by the name of Lewis Wolff took over the team. In 2006, the Oakland Athletics returned to the postseason, but lost to the Detroit Tigers in the American League Championship Series. The 2007 season ended with disappointment plagued with injuries.
