Major League Baseball History

Major League Baseball(MLB) is known as being America's Pastime, but also as highest level of professional baseball. Major League Baseball first came into existence in 1903 under two league structure, the National League (NL) and the American League(AL). One of the major difference between the two leagues is that the American league operates under the Designated Hitter Rule. Each League is divided into divisions. Each League has three divisions East, Central, and West division. There are a total of 30 teams within both divisions, and each team plays a total of 162 regular season games. Once the season is done if the team wins there division they are guaranteed a playoff spot. The other playoff spot is given via a wild-card race, meaning one per league. The playoffs begin with either American League Division Series or National League Division Series, in a best-of-five games series. The winner of the division series face of in the American League Championship Series(ALDS) or the National League Championship Series(NLDS) in a best-of-seven series. With the winner of the NLDS and the ALDS they face in the World Series a best-of-seven series. Another important fact on how home field advantage is determined is via whatever team belongs to the league that won the All-Star Game.
