The Los Angeles Dodgers is a professional baseball team out of Los Angeles, California. The Los Angeles Dodgers are a member of the Western Division of Major League Baseball’s National League. In the 1959 season, the Los Angeles Dodgers finished tied with the Milwaukee Braves and a one-game playoff was held which the Los Angeles Dodgers won. The Los Angeles Dodgers advanced through the playoffs and defeated the Chicago White Sox in the World Series. In 1962, the Los Angeles Dodgers opened their new stadium Dodger Stadium. From 1962 to 1966, the Los Angeles Dodgers had a pair of ace pitchers in Don Drysdale, and Sandy Koufax, who combined to win four out of five Cy Young Awards. In 1962, the Los Angeles Dodgers finished with a tie and faced the San Francisco Giants in a one-game playoff game and defeated them, and would go on to win three Pennants in four years. In the 1963 World Series against the New York Yankees the Los Angeles Dodgers swept them in four games. In 1966, the Los Angeles Dodgers once again made it to the World Series but lost to the Baltimore Orioles.

In the late 1970's, Tommy Lasorda took over as the manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers a position which was managed by Walter Alston for 23 years. In 1977 and 1978, the Los Angeles Dodgers won the NL West, and defeated the Philadelphia Phillies in both NLCS Championships, but would lose to the New York Yankees in both years. In 1980, the Los Angeles Dodgers were eliminated by the Houston Astros in a one-game playoff berth with the score of 7-1. In 1981, the arrival of rookie sensation Fernando Valenzuela came onto the seen, and on opening day pitched a shutout for the Los Angeles Dodgers. He would go on to win the Rookie of the Year, and the CY Young Award. The Los Angeles Dodgers put on an impressive season an managed to make it to the playoffs and defeated the Montreal Expos in the NLCS. In the World Series the Los Angeles Dodgers faced the New York Yankees and won in five games. In 1983, the Los Angeles Dodgers won NL West but lost to the Philadelphia Phillies in the NLCS. In 1985, the Los Angeles Dodgers faced the St. Louis Cardinals in the NLCS and lost. After sitting down for most of the 1988 season, Tommy Lasorda went with a new ace Orel Hershiser who won 23 games and was awarded the CY Young Award. That same year the Los Angeles Dodgers won the NLCS against the New York Mets and would face the Oakland Athletics in the World Series. They defeated a high powered offense of the Oakland Athletics led by the "Bash Brothers", Jose Canseco and Mark McGwire, in five games.

The 1990's would not be kind for the Los Angeles Dodgers and they would not win a postseason till 2004. A record that the Los Angeles Dodgers did manage to make was producing Rookies of the Year from 1992 to 1996, which included: Raul Mondesi, Todd Hollandsworth, Eric Karros, Mike Piazza, and Hideo Nomo. In 1996, Tommy Lasorda retired after 20 years as Los Angeles Dodgers manager, and was replaced by Bill Russell. When Jim Tracy became manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers the team posted winning records in the early 2000's. Eric Gagne became a saving superstar. Eric Gagne set a record for concecutive saves with 84 from 2002 to 2004. In 2005, Ned Colleti was hired as the new Los Angeles Dodgers General Manager. He helped bring a lot of talent to the Los Angeles Dodgers and in 2006 they reaced the NLDS but lost to the New York Mets. In 2007, the Los Angeles Dodgers started hot but eventually they faded away. After the season Grady Little resigned as Los Angeles Dodgers manager. On November 1, 2007, Joe Torre became the new manager for the Los Angeles Dodgers and a new era was born in Los Angeles Dodgers history.
