In 1980, the Kansas City Royals once again advanced all the way to the American League Championship and faced the New York Yankees again. This time the Kansas City Royals got revenge and swept the New York Yankees in three games. The Kansas City Royals, faced the Philadelpia Philles and lost in six games. In 1981, the Kansas City Royals returned to the postseason but lost to the Oakland Athletics, because of the Major League Baseball strike. In 1984, the Kansas City Royals won their fifth Western Division title. In 1985, the Kansas City Royals, won their six division title in ten years. Bret Saberhagen's won the Cy Young Award. The Kanas City Royals were down three games in the American League Championship Series against the Toronto Blue Jays but bounced back to win the series and make their second World Series appearance. In the 1985, World Series in what is known as the "I-70 Series", faced the St. Louis Cardinals. The Kansas City Royals fell back in the Series again 3-1 like they did in the ALCS. The Kansas City Royals came back from the 3-1 deficit and Won their first World Series title. In 1990, George Brett became the first player to win the batting title in three decades and also collected his 3,000th hit. From 1995 to 2001 the Kansas City Royals switched ownership and suffered in both players and attendance. In 2002, the Kansas City Royals hit the bottom of baseball history by losing 100 games. In 2003 Tony Pena, became the Kansas City Royals manager, and led the team to a winning record of 83-79 and captured his first American League Manager of the Year. From 2004-2006, the Kansas City Royals were a disappointment posting another 100-loss season. The 2007, season brought a new motto, "True. Blue. Tradition", but the result was the same a losing season. The 2008, season begin with a new manager for the Kansas City Royals, by the name of Trey Hillman and General Manager Dayton Moore.
