The Chicago White Sox are Major League baseball team based out of Chicago, Illinois. The Chicago White Sox Rays in 1906 met the Chicago Cubs in the World Series, and the team was dubbed, "the Hitless Wonders". The Chicago White Sox went on to win in six games. In 1915, the Chicago White Sox picked up Pants Rowland to become the manager and added Shoeless Joe Jackson, Happy Felsch in the outfield, and Eddie Collins at second base. In 1916, the Chicago White Sox acquired Lefty Williams. In 1917, the Chicago White Sox picked up Chick Gandil and Swede Risberg, with these final pieces the team won 100 games and lost 54 a record which still stands. That year the Chicago White Sox roared through the league all the way to the World Series, were they faced the New York Giants and won the series 4-2. In 1919 came the big scandal were it was reported that 8 players had thrown the game because it was fixed and the Chicago White Sox lost the World Series against the Reds. From 1934-1946 Jimmy Dykes became the manager and led them to compete in a critical time.
In 1959, theChicago White Sox the team came under new ownership, led by Bill Veeck. In 1951, Veeck added All-Star Minnie Minoso, who became the first black player in Chicago White Sox history. In 1959, the Chicago White Sox won their first pennant in 40 years. The team was usually a runner up to the New York Yankees from 1957-1967.
In 1983, the Chicago White Sox led by Tony La Russa who won his first Manager of the year award, led the team to clinch the Al West title. In 1993, the Chicago White Sox won the AL West led by Frank Thomas, Bo Jackson, Robin Venture, and Roberto Hernandez. In 2005, the Chicago White Sox turned things aroung led by skipper Ozzie Guillen. The team would not lose a game in the Post-season, and went on to win the World Series against the Houston Astros. The Chicago White Sox were back on top. In 2006 the team did not make the playoffs. 2007 looks like Chicago White Sox are ready to make a run with a contract extension to Mark Buehrle.
