In 2004, the Chicago Cubs managed to blow the Wildcard lead and did not make the playoffs. After the season Sammy Sosa was let go due to a fallout with Chicago Cubs and a corked bat incident. In 2007, the Chicago Cubs bounced back from a previous year last place finish to first place. With the help of new Chicago Cubs Alfonso Soriano and new manager Lou Piniella, they marched into the playoffs after winning the NL Central. The Chicago Cubs lost in the NLDS against the Arizona Diamondbacks due to stranding over 30 baserunners.
