Backstreet Boys earned their first Platinum album ever. In 1997, with pop music returning the U.S., so did Backstreet Boys, with their second album Backstreet's Back, and the release of "Quit Playing Games With My Heart", and at the same time a release of their second international album, the two albums sold over 2.8 million records. That same year Backstreet Boys went on a 60-city, 20 country tour. In 1999, Backstreet Boys received a diamond award for having sold over 10 million copies for their self entitled album.

In 1999, Backstreet Boys released Millennium and it was a huge success, and sold 1,134,000 copies in the first week, and sold 9,445,732 records for the year. In 2000, Backstreet Boys released Black & Blue and the album was successful, and sold 1.9 million copies in the first week. In 2001, Backstreet Boys started the Black & Blue World Tour. In 2002, tension with their label, Backstreet Boys, Nick Carter released his solo album, which went gold. In 2005, Backstreet Boys came together again after a hiatus and released Never Gone. Never Gone received platinum status. That same year Brian Littrell's song, "In Christ Alone" made the #1 Christian Charts. In 2007, Backstreet Boys released Unbreakable and so far has not been as successful. AJ Mclean is said to release his solo album in 2008.
