The name "Angels comes from the original city they were born in Los Angeles. The Angels have been in Anaheim since 1966 and have made Angel Stadium there new home. The Angels were founded in 1961 and were called the Los Angeles Angels and played in Wrigley Field. In 1997 disney bought the team an renamed them the Anaheim Angels. In 2005 another name changed occured do to the owner wanting to tap into the Los Angels market and the new name became the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

The original owner of the Anaheim Angels was Gene Autry an actor, singer, movie cowboy and owner of Golden West Broadcasters, who named the team the Los Angels Angels. In the teams first year the team finished with a 70-91 record, they played games at Dodger Stadium. The need for a stadium was evident and in 1965, Gene Autry made a deal with the city of Anaheim and in 1996 the Angels had a new stadium and the team became the California Angels.

In 1970 the Anaheim Angels they finished third in the American League West, but produced its first and only American League batting title, Alex Johnson. During the 70's the Anaheim Angels became the Nolan Ryan Express team. Nolan Ryan tossed four no-hitters and set several strike out records during his career, like his 1973 record of 383-strikeouts mark, a record which still stands to date. It was not till 1979 the the Anaheim Angels won their firs American League West championship in 1979, and the same year Don Baylor became the first designated hitter to win the Most Valuable Player(MVP) award. The 1980's was dissapointing for many different factors for the Anaheim Angels. In 1982 the Anaheim Angels acquired "Mr.October" Reggie Jackson and almost reached the World Series that year. Anaheim Angels went up two games in the ALCS against the Milwaukee Brewers but lost the next three games. In 1986 the heartbreak for the ages occured again with one strike left. Donnie Moore gave up a two-out, two-ball, two-strike, two-run home run to Dave Henderson and Boston went ahead 6-5 and won 7-6. The newx sixteen years would be disappointing as the Angels would not qualify for the playoffs. It was not till 1996 that Disney took full control of the Anaheim Angels. The team hired Tony Tavares as the president. The Anaheim Angels won their first World Series in 2002. They beat the New York Yankees in the ALDS 3 games to 1, and beat the Minnesota Twins 4 games to 1, and defeated the San Francisco Giants. In 2004, slugger Vladimir Guerrero won the American League Most Valuable Player, and led the Anaheim Angels to a fourth American League West Championship. In 2006, the Anaheim Angels finished in second place and failed to reach the playoffs since 2003.
